(NOTE: This is not a navigational product.) |
|
The Columbia River empties into the Pacific Ocean at Astoria, Oregon, where explorers Lewis and Clark spent the 1805-1806 winter. Within a few years it became the hub of John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company. The infamous Columbia Bar, formed by the shifting sands of the Columbia, has seen the doom of many sailing ships. Today, it is a tourist stop for cruise ships and has a growing art community. |
